The goal of English Language Support (ESOL) is to accelerate English language learning to allow students to engage fully in the New Zealand curriculum. At Aidanfield Christian School, we believe that language should not prevent students from participating fully, and we work hard to ensure that students have the right language support to be able to learn effectively.
A team of experienced and well qualified English teachers and teaching assistants work with students who are learning English. There is timetabled in-class and small group language support and all teaching staff are involved in ongoing professional learning around effective teaching practice.
The English teachers conduct an initial assessment to establish language needs, and there is ongoing language assessment, at least three times a year.
As well, we value communication with parents and seek to build strong partnerships to enhance student success in learning. We have a diverse student community and there are many ways which parents can contribute to the life of the school.
