Zoning & Enrolment Preferences

Aidanfield Christian School is a State Integrated School under Part 33 of the Education Act (EA). Section 442 of the EA requires that a Proprietor define a preference applicant. A preference applicant is a family which, in the opinion the Kings Christian School Trust Board, will uphold and preserve the Special Character of the School and are members of church fellowships who concur with the school’s statement of faith. (Integration Deed of Agreement, Clause 23(i))

Maximum Roll

The school’s roll will be managed within the maximum roll prescribed in the school’s integration agreement.

Priority in Enrolment

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority	Will be given to preference applicants for whom the school is reasonably convenient. [Note 1] If including all first priority applicants would exceed the School’s maximum roll then criteria for selection will be based, in sequence, on the second priority through to the ninth priority.
Second Priority	Will be given to preference applicants who are parents of current students.
Third Priority	Will be given to preference applicants who are parents of students graduating from Rolleston Christian School
Fourth Priority	Will be given to preference applicants who are: current permanent Board employees (half time or greater), Board of Trustee members, Board of Proprietor members, or parents who have served on the Parent Association executive for a term longer than two years.
Fifth Priority	Will be given to preference applicants who are parents of former students.
Sixth Priority	Will be given to preference applicants from another Network school [Note 3] who have moved into the inner zone of this school [Note 2].
Seventh Priority	Will be given to preference applicants from the school’s inner zone Whose children have attended Christian schools or pre-schools for one year or longer; Whose children have been home-schooled; Whose children previously attended the school; or Who have become preference applicants subsequent to their children starting at a state school.
Eighth Priority	Will be given to all other preference applicants from the school’s inner zone. At this level, priority in enrolment will be given to those who meet one or more of the following criteria: Enrolment is sought at the new entrant level Year 7 or Year 9 level Enrolment is sought at a year level where a place is available
Ninth Priority	Will be given to preference applicants from outside the inner zone but for whom the school is reasonably convenient as defined in Note 1. Priority in enrolment will be given according to the criteria in the seventh priority.
Tenth Priority	Will be given to non-preference applicants. Non-preference students will be enrolled only if: Enrolment places remain after all preference students have been enrolled; and Doing so will not cause the school to exceed the number of non-preference students allowed in its integration agreement. Priority in enrolment for non-preference applicants will be given first to inner zone, then to outer zone applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria: Who are parents of current students; Enrolment is sought at new entrant level; Enrolment is sought at a year level where there is space in the class at that time.

If there are more applicants at any year level than places available in priority groupings two to nine, places will be allocated by ballot. Unsuccessful applicants at each year level will have their names recorded on a waiting list, within their relevant priority category, ranked in the order in which they were drawn in the ballot. The waiting list will remain current until the board next notifies the public that it is inviting applications for the next enrolment intake.

Pre-enrolment

Each year applications will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by each respective school.

No enrolments will be confirmed more than one year prior to the proposed date of entry.

Notes

1. Area of reasonable convenience: (Outer zone) The area bounded by the Rakaia River in the south, the Canterbury / Westland boundary along the Southern Alps in the west, Hurunui River to the North, and the Pacific Ocean to the East.

2. Inner Zone

Year 1-8: The area bounded by the Rakaia River east of the Main South Road, Main South Road, Dunns Crossing Road, Selwyn Road, north onto Weedons Road, east onto Main South Road, Blenheim Road, Curletts Road, Hoon Hay Road, Cashmere Road, Hackthorne Road, Dyers Pass Road, Southern foreshore of Lyttelton Harbour, East SI coastline from Lyttelton Harbour to the mouth of the Rakaia River.

Year 9-10: The area bounded by the Rakaia River east of the Main South Road, Main South Road, Blenheim Road, Curletts Road, Hoon Hay Road, Cashmere Road, Hackthorne Road, Dyers Pass Road, Southern foreshore of Lyttelton Harbour, East SI coastline from Lyttelton Harbour to the mouth of the Rakaia River.

3. Network School: A school belonging to the Christian Education Network (CEN). CEN schools at the time of writing are: Aidanfield Christian School, Emmanuel Christian School, Hillview Christian School, Middleton Grange School, Rangiora New Life School, Rolleston Christian School.
